This coming Sunday, April 26, marks the 49th running of the Glass City Marathon! This local event brings in many people to our community and gives us an opportunity to let Toledo shine! To our parishioners and those connected to Gesu who are running in the race: good luck! You will be in our prayers! To our parishioners who are volunteering in some capacity: thank you for your generosity!
We also need to be aware that there may be some challenges to our Gesu community in terms of traffic and closed roads. So, if you are planning on coming to the 10:00am Mass this Sunday, April 26, please plan your route to Gesu accordingly. You can find the marathon route map by clicking here; please be aware that the race lasts several hours, so not every road is closed at every moment of the day. If you are coming from Sylvania or areas west of Ottawa Hills, a good plan might be to come to Gesu via Dorr St. and then Parkside Blvd. (the race route has long passed Parkside by the time people will be coming for Mass) instead of coming via Bancroft, as the full marathon does cross Bancroft on the University Trail near the end of the race.
Additionally, Frs. Marty and Craig will be out at 6:30am when the race starts in order to cheer on the runners! Near our Gesu School crosswalk is "Mile Marker #1" for the race, so it is an ideal place to see every runner in a short period of time; at this very early point in the race almost every runner is past Gesu within 30 minutes. If you want to join them in front of Gesu Church to cheer on the runners feel free! However, please be aware that Bancroft is completely closed in front of UT that morning and southbound Parkside Blvd. (the side that passes directly in front of Gesu) is closed by police right before the race begins, so come early and plan your route accordingly if you want to join!
