“By His Stripes we are Healed”
During this Holy Week we enter into the most solemn celebration on the entire Church calendar: the Easter Triduum. We recall the Lord's institution of the Holy Eucharist at the Last Supper on Holy Thursday. We remember his Passion and death on Good Friday. We fast and pray in hopeful anticipation throughout Holy Saturday.
And then, as the sun sets on Holy Saturday night, the Church throughout the world gathers around a fire, the symbol of Christ's burning love, and begins the Solemn Easter Vigil. The story of our salvation, from the moment of creation in Genesis all the way through Christ's resurrection, is told. After the proclamation of the Gospel of the resurrection, we baptize new members into the Body of Christ and then welcome other people who, already baptized in another Christian church, seek to become members of the Catholic Church. All of this is a liturgical expression of that great mystery of our faith, the Paschal mystery. Where once death and sorrow took hold, joy and hope now abound all the more!
So, as we approach these holy days, know that you are invited to participate in all of the sacred liturgies this week, which you can find listed below!
May you have a blessed and fruitful Holy Week and Triduum! And we hope to see you!
