“And the Word Became Flesh”
"Glory to God in the highest, and on earth, peace to people of good will!" These words, echoing the words spoken by the host of angels to the shepherds on Christmas night, are the ones we will sing at all of our Christmas Masses and throughout the Christmas Octave when we sing the Gloria. They are words of glory and praise of God for all that God has done. And, they reflect the blessings that God gives to his holy people.
Of course, the greatest blessing is that "the Word became flesh and made his dwelling among us." Jesus, the Second Person of the Blessed Trinity the Son of God, became a man. This is what we celebrate on Christmas Day. Then, this Sunday, Dec. 28, we recall that he also had a human family, just like we do, when we celebrate the Feast of the Holy Family.
And so, as we walk forward in our own lives amidst its joys as well as its struggles, let us always remember that Jesus knows what it's like to be human. He was like us "in all things but sin." May our hearts be filled with joy because of our good and loving God, who loved us so much that he became one of us, during this holiday season!
From all of us at Gesu, may you and your families have a blessed and merry Christmas!
